Invitation to Conference: PSYCHOLOGY – a contribution to EU Policy Making

Dear President,

I have the pleasure to invite you to attend the first ‘Psychology for Europe’ Conference, which will take place at the European Parliament on November 9, 2011 from 13.00 till 17.15 hours.

This conference is organized by EFPA, the European Federation of Psychologists Associations.  It is kindly hosted by MEP Leonidas Donskis, MEP Nadja Hirsch, and MEP Vilja Savisaar-Toomast with support of the Alliance of Liberal Democrats in Europe (http://www.alde.eu/).

The aim of the conference is to provide information on psychology and what it can offer to society to Members of the European Parliament and to officials from the European Commission as well as other European bodies. The conference should help to establish a dialogue that will allow psychology to contribute to European policy-making in the future.

Attached you will find the conference program with details of the event. The program comprises a presentation with an overview of psychology’s possible contributions to European policy-making, based on inputs received from EFPA’s member associations and committees as well as from Europe’s specialized psychology associations, and four short presentations on selected topics. It is foreseen that experts from various areas will be ready to give brief (2 minute) “supplementary statements”, answer specific questions, and engage in networking with other participants.

We hope that you will be able to attend this unique event, which is the first to bring representatives from all fields of European psychology together with European policy-makers. The conference can only be attended upon invitation by EFPA or the hosting Members of the European Parliament.

Participation requires registration by means of the attached form.  The form should be returned to the EFPA Head Office (headoffice@efpa.eu) not later than November 1, 2011.

Please make sure to provide the requested identity information, as entry into the European Parliament building is restricted.

Since the admission process takes some time, we ask you to schedule your arrival at the entrance of the building by 13.00 hrs.

We count on you to make this conference a success and to prepare the ground for other, more specialized conferences and exchanges with policy-makers in the years to come.

On behalf of the Executive Council of EFPA

Prof. dr. Robert A. Roe

President of EFPA
