«Aristotle   Prize 2025 – Paphos Cyprus»

Dear President of EFPA Mr. Christoph Steinebach,

Dear President of Swedish Psychological Association Ms. Kristina Taylor,

Dear Colleagues, Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of the Board of the Association of Greek Psychologists – AGP, I would like to congratulate Prof. Lars Bäckman, Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience on being selected as the winner of the Aristotle Prize 2025. The «Aristotle Prize» is awarded to an individual Psychologist or Team from Europe recognised internationally as having made a substantial and original contribution to Psychology as a science or as a profession. It has been awarded since 1995, 30 years ago, and the decision was made during the 4th European Congress of Psychology in 1995 Athens, Greece. Aristotle was a Greek philosopher during the Classical period in Ancient Greece, he is often regarded as the “father of psychology” and his book, De Anima (On the Soul), is considered the first book on psychology. He was concerned with the connection between the psychological processes and the underlying physiological phenomenon. The Aristotle Prize Committee of EFPA awards the Aristotle Prize 2025 to Prof. Lars Bäckman, Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at the Department of Neurobiology, Care Sciences and Society, Karolinska Institute, in recognition of:

– his internationally distinguished career advancing cognitive theory and practice,

– his acclaimed contributions to the understanding of cognitive ageing,

– and his lasting impact on psychological science, applied practice, and public relevance through original research and interdisciplinary innovation.

The Prize as an object, as a jewel, is crafted by a silversmith, it is in silver and decorated with an olive tree branch. In ancient times, during the Olympic Games the olive branch was the prize of the winners, symbolizing Peace and Victory.

Vassiliki Boukouvala, President AGP
